Created for a longtime client as part of a multi-phase home transformation, this powder room was envisioned as a dedicated retreat for the women of the household—the wife and mother, as well as the visiting homeowners’ mothers. Having previously designed a separate powder room tailored to the men of the family, including their two young sons, the clients desired a distinctly different experience for this space: one that felt feminine, chic, and artfully layered.
The transformation began with a complete reimagining of the room as an immersive, enveloping environment where every detail contributes to a singular experience. Warm gray wood veneer wallcovering featuring a ginkgo wave motif with silver accents wraps the walls, evoking the patterns of nature. The door and trim were painted a coordinating charcoal tone, allowing the uninterrupted wall treatment to remain the visual focus. Above, a coordinating champagne-luster ceiling paper extends the design vertically, blurring the boundaries of the room and creating a cocoon-like atmosphere.
Opposite the existing round window wall is a custom-designed floating vanity. Crafted with sculptural champagne-colored glass door panels featuring a linear textured pattern, the vanity incorporates a recessed LED perimeter, creating the illusion that the doors hover weightlessly within the space. Additional recessed lighting beneath the vanity enhances its floating presence, while integrated edge pulls maintain the clean silhouette.
The vanity is topped with honed Calacatta Cremo marble and a matching backsplash, introducing a soft elegance that complements the surrounding finishes. A hammered polished stainless-steel crescent-shaped undermount sink provides an unexpected focal point, paired with a polished nickel widespread faucet adorned with hand-painted enamel mosaic accents in a delicate spring floral motif.
Lighting was thoughtfully layered to create both atmosphere and drama. A statement pendant composed of undulating hand-blown glass discs stacked around an illuminated core resembles a luminous beehive-like sculpture suspended in space. Flanking the mirror, the sconces feature opal matte globes nestled within thick clear cast glass finished with polished nickel backplates.
The flooring grounds the room with matte gray porcelain tile featuring subtle veining, allowing the richness of the vertical surfaces to remain the star while providing a refined and durable foundation.
No detail was overlooked. A hammered polished nickel door lever, decorative grille vent, and capiz shell accessories elevate everyday elements into design features. The result is a powder room sanctuary that feels both intimate and transportive.
