Westchester Home Magazine Design Awards 2026 Winner Best Home Office
Originally part of a whole-home transformation completed in 2016, this new chapter of the project reimagines the husband’s office into a sophisticated, multifunctional office and dressing suite tailored to his daily rituals and lifestyle. With the adjacent bathroom previously designed as his private retreat, the homeowners sought to create a seamless morning experience: a space where he could rise before the rest of his family, shower, dress, prepare for the day, and work without disrupting the household.
The transformation began with a clear goal—elevating functionality through highly personalized organization while creating a refined and inviting environment. Custom stained rift-cut cerused oak millwork was designed to maximize clothing storage, incorporating illuminated hanging areas for suits, integrated drawers, concealed mirror panels, and bespoke details such as a dedicated outlet for his watch winder. Oil-rubbed bronze hardware wrapped in rich brown leather adds a layer of craftsmanship and understated luxury.
The millwork thoughtfully transitions into a custom desk, where a textured corduroy back panel and integrated floating shelf lighting provide both visual warmth and practical illumination. A tailored seating area was equally important, allowing the homeowner to welcome his three daughters when they visited his office. A custom cushioned window seat, framed by millwork and upholstered in faux leather side panels, creates an intimate reading nook, complemented by a plush slipper chair with a leather back and upholstered seat.
Layered textures and rich materials establish a sense of warmth and quiet sophistication. A hand-knotted wool and bamboo rug grounds the room, while an Australian cappuccino sheepskin beneath the desk transforms the workspace into a comfortable retreat. A custom semi-flush fixture featuring blackened pewter and a mulberry-trimmed base complements the richly textured abaca leaf wallcovering in a deep, moody brown-plum hue.
An updated interpretation of a classic wing chair on rolling casters provides both elegance and ergonomic function, while a faux shagreen dresser offers additional wardrobe storage beneath a landscape oil painting by acclaimed artist David Konigsberg. The result is a timeless, deeply personal space where every detail—from organization and technology to materiality and comfort—was thoughtfully considered to elevate the everyday experience of working, dressing, and connecting with family.
