POWDER ROOM, Harrison, NY: The homeowners needed an overhaul of their entire new home, including the powder room, as the ornate details from the prior owners were not to their taste. The space was also not being utilized to its fullest potential, with only a vanity placed to one side and empty space to its right side that looked awkward and unfinished. A remodel was in order, yet the clients did not want to spend to redo the marble flooring so the floor became the jumping off point for a clean, contrasting design. As the couple was from Europe and they liked a minimalist modern look, I envisioned the design as a chic, boutique hotel powder room. The neutral, warm palette is married with luxurious details like a custom wall mounted charcoal stained cabinet and brushed brass details in the wall mounted faucet and sconces. The unique lava stone vessel sink brings a masculine note that feels sleek yet organic. The cabinet optimizes the space and keeps the small space feeling open and airy by floating from one end of the space to the other. A stylish ceiling light with back accents along with the molding punctuated with the black perimeter detail also helps take advantage of the high ceilings to expand the room visually. The space is finished with a brass and black accented mirror and artwork selected from the clients collection, my favorite being the pairing at each side of the countertop of framed mini colored pencil and ink sketches of Germany.
